Waiting for my walk Mum!
Good morning dear Reader.......Poor Charlie! If anything is going to happen in this house, then it is going to happen to Charlie.....I think he was born under an unlucky sign......
Take this morning.....I was brushing my hair to put it up and the brush flew out of my hand and hit poor little Charlie on the head.....He yelped and I picked him up and gave him a big cuddle, which he lapped up of course, but still.....poor little bugger....Then there is the grooming......Twice now, he has been cut badly on the membrane of skin between his back leg and his groin......Oh my God, twice!......I know that it not the groomers fault but, why is it always Charlie.....The last time, he wouldn't leave it alone and I had to keep on to him so that he wouldn't make it worse......
Yesterday I closed the front doors as it was getting cool and went into the kitchen to bake.....I had been there about 1/2 hr when the other two starting barking and I couldn't figure out why.....They were also at the front door and when I looked I heard wimpering.....I opened the door and there was Charlie....I hadn't even see him go out! Oh my God, poor Charlie.....He had been locked out!....What sort of a mother am I?.....I gave him extra big cuddles!
Charlie is our psycho dog....He is always on the go.....never stops.....never stops being the guard dog and self-appointed security dog......He is naturally slim and no matter how much you feed him, he just doesn't put on weight......I always give him just that little bit extra......I cook the breakfasts for all the dogs, usually either Chicken, Pork or Beef mince, with rice and vegetables.....I use little zip lock bags and weigh up each and every bag with about 100 grams for Harry and Ollie and for Charlie I put in 120 grams.....I know its not much difference, but I also give him extra for dinner.....Which is pasta with minced lamb and vegetables and oils such as, flaxseed to keep them as healthy as possible.....Charlie is allergic to normal dog food and was constantly getting ear aches and infections when I was giving the puppies normal dog food....Even though it was "Science Diet" food, which is quite expensive compared to supermarket food, it still gave him the infections....The vet mentioned to me the last time Charlie has an infection that he could be having a reaction to the proteins in the meats contained in the dog food....That's when I came up with the idea to cook for them myself.....It's not only cheaper but, it's also better for them....Hence, no more ear infections or sickness! No more forking out, not only money for the vet, but, also $42.00 on average just for the ear drops for Charlie and then there were the Antibiotics as well....
He is a beautiful dog though.....He is a contradiction.....If anyone comes to the door, especially a man, he goes berserk, runs around like a looney dog, barks like mad and tries to nip anyone that we let in.....He usually tries for the pants but he has nipped a couple of people on the calf.....We have to hold him for five minutes when anyone comes and then he is fine......Yet, when we have a cuddle he is the gentlest of creatures and gives very gentle kisses. He often will cuddle up to someone he has try to mutilate 10 minutes earlier.....Strange dog! We love him, just love him.....As I have told you before, his former owner must have abused him terribly and even though we have had him for four years now, something has stayed with him from that abuse and it will never leave him.....Poor Charlie!
He is so funny when I come home from an outing.....I always put them outside on the patio where they have their little outside beds and they have toys to play with and they also have a dog house if they want to sleep in there.......There is a huge sliding glass door leading out to the patio and the puppies can see me come down the stairs when I get home to let them in......That's when the jumping starts.....Charlie gets so excited that he starts jumping up and down.....Remember Donkey, out of Shrek the movie, well, Charlie can jump as high as Donkey was jumping up and down yelling pick me, pick me! I crack up every time I see him, but I always am the good mother and make sure he stops before I let him in the house......He has taught Ollie how to do it as well.....So I have two Donkeys jumping up and down when I get home.....Hilarious!
Harry intimidates Charlie......Poor Charlie is the lowest in the pecking order and Harry often won't let him jump up on the bed or the couch and even though I rouse on Harry, it makes no difference...Charlie just won't jump up if Harry has told him no! I make up for it by giving him extra cuddles when Harry isn't looking......Charlie tries to take it out on Ollie but, Ollie is higher in the ranking and poor Charlie hasn't got a hope.......
It still, to this day, amazes me how our three puppies have such different and distinct personalities and I love each and every one of them equally but, I must say, that I have an extra soft spot for my poor Charlie! xoxoxo
Hi, At 59 I am just finding my feet in the world...So exciting! I have learnt a lot over the years.....gone from being extremely hard up to living a very comfortable life and loving every single minute of it.......My boys are grown up and living good lives themselves and I am so proud of them.......I have the best husband in the world (most of the time anyway....hahaha) and I have 3 dogs who I just adore and they adore me...... I try to live by my motto ......"Be like the sun....let your warmth shine through always"
