I looked like some idiot white chick trying to be black..
Good morning dear Reader........What a beautiful day! Have you have had a bad hair cut or style? I have!....My hairdresser cut my hair 3 weeks ago and I am still waiting for it to get better......
I have been going to the same lady for a couple of years now and she has always been fantastic....This time though, I went and asked her to just layer it a bit to get rid of the really dry strands from a couple of light foils that I had done.....She did remark on just how long and thick my hair and asked how much I wanted off and also would I like it thinned a bit.....I motioned with my fingers.....just this much (about 1/2 inch) and said yes, just a bit of thinning would be good..........so she starts and we got to talking and in half an hour the job is done.......She dried my hair a little bit and showed me the back of my hair in the mirror and I thought all was well......Until I got up off the chair and saw all the hair on the floor.....I touched my hair......Oh dear....it was so thin.....I paid my money, promptly went home, looked in the mirror, put a brush through my hair and realised that at least 3 inches had come off the length and the thinning out was not even.....parts were really thick and parts were really thin.....It was a mess!.......How could I have been so blind at her salon? What the #@%^*! I cried!
It reminded me though, of another time when I get my straight hair permed.....It was way back in the 80's......We had little money but, I was determined to have a perm and I thought that it would be nice to have some lovely loose curls and my hair would be bouncy as I walked, people would look and point and remark just how nice my hair was. I would love it!......Big mistake! I went to a salon that I didn't normally frequent and asked directly and plainly for a perm which would not be really curly, but would give me the bounce that I wanted....I remember asking if that could be done and was told, "Yes, it's called a body wave". I sat down in the chair and for four hours I sat there and put up with the treatments and the smells and the chatter. I kept grinning like an idiot thinking about the lovely hair I would have when they had finished and the curlers came out......I have told you before....I am a fool!
The curlers came out....They rinsed my hair! I'm not sure if they washed it or just put a conditioner in it but, they did something......They moved me over to the mirror to dry my hair a little bit and the horror must have shown in my face.....Tiny, tight little curls covered my head......I was so shocked I couldn't speak.....given that I was also shy in those days and didn't stick up for myself, I stunned myself when I told them that it was just awful.....They said that was what I asked for and I told them it was not......I had to pay the bil,l which was something incredible like $40.00, and I went home.....
I looked at myself in the mirror again and cried and cried......I looked like some idiot white chick with a huge afro trying to be black......How could I have been so stupid?
See the photo above, yes, I have super imposed my face on another lady's body, but the result is almost identical to what I looked like......Horrible.....Because my hair is very dark and red based, my hair went that yucky orangey colour and was almost as high as the picture above.....Only one of those big toothed comb would go through it. My husband found me on the kitchen floor when he came home from work crying my eyes out.......He was also horrified and although he tried to tell me it wasn't that bad, I could see that he just couldn't take his eyes off the top of my hair and his eyes were definitely laughing.....Bastard! All I could picture was birds coming to nest in my huge hair and all sorts of things getting lost in there.......
I got my wish for bouncy hair, although, it din't just bounce, it swayed from side to side. On a windy day, I was almost blown away..... "No way I was going back to a hairdresser ever again," I vowed. There was no point getting it all cut off as then I would look like an idiot......I had to put up with it.....One thing I did find out though.....My hair took to that perm like a rat to a sewer......It lasted for over 4 or 5 months and I have had to destroy any photos taken at the time.......Some may have escaped me and are lurking out there to come back and haunt me.....
Have you ever had such an experience? It seems that I am incredibly unlucky but, maybe that stems from being so clumsy.....Now that's another story! At least I learned a very valuable lesson.....don't try to be
