Hi dear Reader......I was watching "The Project" last night on Channel 10, (I love this show) and they had a segment on about memory and how to improve it and keep those memories for a long, long time.......They had a scientist on, who specialised in the workings of the brain, mind you, she only looked about twelve, and she was saying that our brain is designed to drop a lot of unimportant memories and keep the important ones like weddings, birthdays, holidays, etc.......They presented this young man who has trained his brain to remember great long numbers sequences and especially, he can memorize a shuffled deck of cards in six minutes.......Gee, that will really help us in the Old People's Home! Who is going to remember that I have showed them the trick...who will care that I can remember 52 cards in order?
I have been worried about my memory! A few years ago, one of my good friends and I decided that we needed to do something about our failing memories....we were forgetting silly little things all the time, although she was worse than me...In Fact, she was really bad....I invited her and her husband over for a Roast Lunch one Sunday. I prepared it and everything was great, table was set, the time passed. they didn't arrive at the appointed time. With the roast now spoiling I rang her and asked where she was...."I'm at the neighbours having a nice wine," she says......"Should you be anywhere else?" I ask her......."No, I don't think sooooo.......Oh no...!" she says.........We will be there in 1/2 an hour!" That's how bad she is! Anyway, we both decided that we would take Folic Acid because we had heard that it was very good for brain health......We dutifully took the Folic for a whole month and at the end of the month we asked each other what we thought about the Folic Acid......She looked at me with a sheepish grin and told me that she kept forgetting to take it.......I was the same.......What was the bloody point!
I have worked out though, that there are differed categories of brain mode that affect our memories and brain function as follows:-
Office Brain.....Already explained in my blog "Oh No, Office Brain" 4/2/13...the most boring mode..
Man Brain......This is the mode that only applies to the male of the species and it works by blocking out all sense and reason..........e.g. The men in our lives can remember Soccer or Rugby scores dating back to the Ice Age but they can't remember where they put the tool that they just put down......it also applies to looking for things in cupboards.....the brain enables them to open the door or the drawer but, disables the movement mode which would allow them to move or lift things to find the object they are looking for! Very frustrating mode this one!
Befuddled Brain ...... In this mode the brain has absorbed a little more alcohol than is necessary to maintain a bright and breezy outlook the morning after the night before......it's not a very nice mode to be in......
Oh La La Brain.......This is one of my favourite modes........the brain completely switches off. No thoughts enter the brain in this mode other than one thing.......to gain pleasure at all costs.......
PMT Brain........Very sad mode.......Women are the only poor souls afflicted with this mode.......Crying a lot, pain, anger, and unreasonable behaviour..........the brain can't cope....
Menopausal Brain.......This is probably the most dangerous mode of all.......the brain goes from completely forgetting even your own name to wanting to commit atrocities on those closest to you because they looked at you in the wrong way......(I know, I have been there)....This mode is best avoided at all costs as it combines all the symptoms of PMT Brain with its own!
Attila the Hun Brain.......In this mode the brain wants to fight everything that moves for no particular reason other than another fella may have looked at you in the wrong way, especially under the influence of alcohol..........mostly, men suffer this mode, but as it is very similar to a symptom of Menopausal Brain I cannot discount women suffering from this mode.
Having experienced all the above, except for Man Brain and Attila the Hun Brain, obviously, I consider myself rather an authority on the matter, even though I don't have a fancy science degree to accompany my findings........So be warned dear Reader....now you will understand what brain mode someone is in and it will make it easier for you to cope.........
p.s. Would love some feedback .... do you like my blogs? If you want to have a go at me for not being very PC..... don't bother, I won't listen to you........
Hi, At 59 I am just finding my feet in the world...So exciting! I have learnt a lot over the years.....gone from being extremely hard up to living a very comfortable life and loving every single minute of it.......My boys are grown up and living good lives themselves and I am so proud of them.......I have the best husband in the world (most of the time anyway....hahaha) and I have 3 dogs who I just adore and they adore me...... I try to live by my motto ......"Be like the sun....let your warmth shine through always"
